The essence of our development work is to use modern technology in order to enjoy the beauty and peacefulness of life on the water both sustainably and by protecting natural resources. Electric drive does not cause any noise; complete redundancy and bow thrusters make you feel sure that you will never strand; solar panels and fuel cells ensure travelling without limits. Hull length and width are constructed in a way that enables you to pass even very narrow sluices in remote areas.

The boat is driven by electric driving units with at least one in each hull. You can choose between the classic option with integral motors, drive shafts and rudder blades or engine nacelles.

As far as the engine nacelles are concerned, you can choose to fix a third engine nacelle in the front, in the middle between the hulls. An emergency circuit of the accumulators guarantees additional safety in order to switch to another drive if necessary. Thus, you can reach your next destination safely even in case of a crossover failure of engine and/ or accumulator.

Both hulls are equipped with bow thrusters in order to facilitate docking and undocking. The bow thrusters are run by the accumulator serving the boats equipment and appliances, in order to remain independent of the main drive and keep up a minimum of manoeuvrability in case of an emergency. The speed arises out of the driving power and will be at about 13.5 km/h.

The solar railings© of our houseboats are internationally patented. Special mountings enable to use the large area below the solar panels on the upper deck for sunbathing or as a party deck. With plug-in rods and solar sails the upper deck can be transferred to a cosy sun lounge. For this purpose, the solar panels are folded and swung aside. This possibility guarantees great mobility, even upon docking or undocking.

Furthermore, the solar panels may be turned optimally to “harvest” the sunlight.

If there is not enough solar energy to move forward, a fuel cell provides the charging of the accumulators. There are even more technical facilities available. Do not hesitate to contact us for further information.

Our integrated traverse© is unique and offers a further contribution towards your safety. As a former construction manager, I dealt with heavy-duty transports and crane operations on a daily basis. To lift ships a crane with a heavy traverse in combination with lifting belts that are drawn through under the hull is standard use. A kind of technique that is practicable in case of a single hull boat.

With this technique however, strong forces emerge that influence the hulls on the sides and the joining construction and may cause micro cracks and structural damages. In order to avoid this, we have constructed a kind of a cage which is part of the supporting structure of our boats. As a result, our houseboats may be lifted out of the water by a common truck-crane at any place without having to use any special hoisting gear.

In order to compensate the wind-exposed area of INDIE, the lateral plan of the underwater hull forms a counterbalance to avoid drifting off. This means that the draught must have a minimum depth as well. Additionally, we have put emphasis on a low resistance at a high total weight which is realized by narrow hulls with an appropriate draught.

The external dimensions of the houseboat INDIE are: 14.80 x 4.80 x 0.90 m (length/width/depth).

Apart from the in-wind-performance, the hulls outline and thus the water resistance were determined by CFD simulation “ORCA 3D Marine”. The special form of the hull has emerged from these simulations which is not “ready-made” but exactly meets the requirements of our design.

The four external bow and stern supports at the corners of the main deck are aerofoil profiles which guide the wind around the construction in an extremely effective way. As shown in our simulations, the aerofoil profiles are supportive due to their physical characteristics in order to stabilize the ship even in case of side winds from astern or front and to keep it on course.
